Gorgeous Feathers and Colorful Flags in Coachella 2026 Style

Coachella tests how people want to be seen in public, in heat, in crowds, and under constant documentation. Looking at Coachella in 2016 compared to 2026 shows how much that approach has changed. The difference is not just aesthetic. It reflects how people relate to identity, culture, and visibility. In this article we will have a glimpse at Coachella fashion through the past few years.

2016: The Festival Uniform

In 2016, Coachella style followed a clear formula. Crochet tops, fringe, denim shorts, suede boots, layered necklaces, tinted sunglasses, and flower crowns. The look was easy to recognize and easy to replicate. We saw similar silhouettes repeated across the grounds, with slight variations in color or accessories.

Figures like Vanessa Hudgens helped define this visual language. Flowing dresses, stacked jewelry, and headpieces became part of a widely shared idea of what β€œfestival dressing” should look like. It is especially reminiscent of the yellow instagram filters of that era.

2026: Personal Style Under the Sun

Although inevitable, it would have been hard to imagine that the boho Coachella style would feel irrelevant by 2026. Denim is still present, but styled to look laid-back with simple tanks or oversized shirts. In contrast to the all-baring cutout pants and laced-up leggings that were popular in 2019. Boots remain, but paired with looser pants and big skirts. And less chunky and less rattly was the jewellery this year. The overall look feels closer to how people dress outside the festival, just adapted to the setting. We noticed that outfits feel more wearable across the day which makes total sense for a music festival. Less costume, more continuity.

National flag but make it fashion

Colombian artist Karol G, the first Latina to headline Coachella this year, brought a strong visual presence that felt both playful and representative of her identity. Her looks were centered around the colors of the Colombian flag: yellow, blue, and red. The flag’s colors were present across her different outfits throughout the night, with fun ruffles and lots of gorgeous feathers.

One of the most striking visual elements throughout the show was the macaw parrot appearing on stage. The colorful parrot is native to tropical North and South American forests, and is an ancestral symbol of Latin America’s rich culture. G’s clothes were a loud and clear declaration of her national pride.

Performance wear but make that fashion too

FKA twigs approached Coachella from a different angle. Her styling leaned into real dancer attire with layered textures and tight silhouettes that moved with her choreography. We saw elements like draped fabric, sheer layers, and pieces that referenced dancewear and ritual clothing. The look combined structure with fluidity. Accessories were minimal, allowing the construction and movement of the garments to stand out.

Her styling often draws from a mix of influences, including her own heritage and performance practice. At Coachella, this translated into something that felt deliberate but not fixed. The outfit shifted as she moved, making it part of the performance rather than a static look.

Culture and Context

Hopefully, that era of cultural appropriation and dressing like indigenous people in Coachella is totally behind us now. Another thing we observed this year is how cultural elements are being worn with more awareness. There is a clearer connection between what is worn and who is wearing it.Β

Whether through color, silhouette, or styling choices, these details feel more authentic. They are part of the individual’s identity, not added on top of it. What makes this moment interesting is how close festival style is to everyday dressing. We are not building entirely separate wardrobes for events. We are adapting what we already wear.

A good pair of denim. A tank that fits well. Boots that can last all day. A jacket for the evening. The difference is in how these pieces come together, not in how different they are from daily life.

A Lighter Way to Dress

Coachella still has a distinct tone, but it seems less rigid than before. There is more room to experiment, but also more room to keep things simple.

We liked that this year felt less about getting it β€œright” and more about showing up in something that makes sense for you. Some people leaned into color, others kept it minimal. Both worked. And maybe that is the point. Not one look, but many.
